She has a name!

Introducing Anna Kate Newman...yes, after 2 1/2 days she finally has a name!
Here is a video of her aunt Laci holding Anna on Friday night. She was trying so hard to open those eyes!

I couldn't sleep last night due to some lovely post c-section pains, so I walked down to the NICU at 4:30 am. My baby's nurse, Tally, was awesome. I had told her earlier in the shift that we were thinking of Anna as a possible name for her. She said that she hoped I wouldn't get mad, but that she had been calling my daughter Anna all night long (before we had decided on a name), and my baby really seemed to love it. Her heart rate and respiratory rate would improve, as well as her oxygen levels. So I guess she knew what she wanted her name to be all along!

Anna is doing pretty well. She is still on nasal cannula oxygen to help her breathe. They put in a feeding tube last night and they will feed her small amounts of formula until my milk comes in. The IV in her foot was bad last night, so they had to put it in her scalp. (Trav hasn't seen her since that happened...I have to prepare him!) She is still getting most of her nutrition from the TPN in her IV, but the plan is to increase her formula feedings slowly and eventually she won't need the IV anymore. The docs stopped her antibiotics today, since all of her blood cultures were negative. She has been a lot more alert and even a little bit cranky today. I think they are teasing her with these small formula feedings...she is hungry!
