Go away, RSV!!!

I am serious. I want RSV to go away. Away from Primary Children's, away from my house, and especially away from my sweet little Anna banana. I am done playing with the damn virus, especially since the PICU is well staffed so I have been working on the Infant Med/Surg Unit, which is full of RSV kids right now. I am finally pretty much over my own personal case of RSV, although I still have an occasional cough. I thought Anna was getting better, but a few days ago she started in with a hacking cough and ever since Sunday she has had an expiratory wheeze and some mild subcostal and intercostal retractions (sorry to those of you who aren't nurses...basically those are signs that she is struggling a little bit to breathe). Thankfully my sweet friend Briana has a suction machine for Zander that she let me borrow, and I have used it to suck out Anna's nose a few times. She absolutely hates me for it, too, but at least it helps her breathe better. It breaks my heart to hear her breathe noisily while watching tears run down her cheeks from her irritated eyes. She is a trooper though...she is still playful and smiling, and she is still eating very well. I called the pediatrician today and left a message with his nurse. He called me back personally ("Hey, Jami...this is Jeff." Honestly, who does that?? I love him.) to tell me that I am basically doing everything that he would, so unless she gets worse we are okay to treat her at home. I'm still paying off a lot of medical bills from mine and Anna's hospital stays in September...I don't need more!On another note, Anna had her 5 month birthday last week. She is about 13 pounds, and she is already fitting into some of her 6 month outfits. So much for her being a tiny preemie, right? She has now tried sweet potatoes, carrots, pears, bananas and applesauce. She has learned how to roll from her back to her belly, but she hasn't figured out how to get her arms out, so she just lays there...faceplanted on the floor...and cries until she rolls back onto her back or until I turn her over. Then she grins. She has also found her voice. Although she has been making sounds for a few months, she has really started screaching and carrying on a conversation in her own little language. I think it is adorable! I was able to get a little bit on video about a week ago, so here it is. Enjoy!

So freakin' adorable! What a personality she is going to have. I wish you lived closer so our kids could play more often. Give her tons of kisses from her "Aunt" Briana.

Thanks Jamie. She was amazing. Charles Sorensen sent us a copy of the article. It was well done. She touched many people. Your little one is so adorable. I hope the RSV passes quickly. That is one of my main fears about returning to work. The first shift was hard, but good bonding time for the guys. It should get easier.

I am sorry that you guys are dealing with RSV. My kids had it a few years ago, but they were 3 and 1 1/2 so it wasn't too bad. I have been so encouraged reading your blog about your hospital stay before Anna was born and what to expect from a 4 pounder. It has really helped me!
