Happy Thanksgiving!! I love this holiday, not only for the opportunity to eat a fantastic homecooked meal in the company of family and friends, but because it reminds us to reflect on what we are thankful for. I have so many things in my life that I could not imagine living without, and for these I am extremely thankful. I know this may seem like the typical "list" but I honestly don't know what I would do without each and every thing on this list.
-My sweet baby, for reminding me of the simple joys in life. I love her voice, her smile, her giggle, her (very accurate) horse sounds, even her sassy independent attitude. I love the way she backs into my lap whenever she wants a book read to her.
-My husband, for being my best friend, and for working so hard to provide more for our family. Although he can't be at all the social functions I go to, his heart truly lies with Anna and I and I know he would do anything to protect us and make us happy.
-My in-laws Charlie and Joyce, for being fabulous "second parents" to Anna for a few days each week. With Trav's crazy work schedule, I had no one to watch Anna while I worked. They came through for us in a big way, taking Anna for 2 whole days each week so that I could work 2 nights in a row. They have nurtured her love for animals, taught her to love the outdoors, and have provided her with a love (and occasional discipline!) that only grandparents can. Thanks to both of them for being a HUGE help this past year!!
-My wonderful parents, for always being there for me, and for loving my little girl so much (I think they might love her more than they love me!!). My mom and dad have done more than their fair share of helping out with Anna as well, taking her overnight on multiple occasions. I know I can always count on them. I love them both so much, and I don't know what I would do without them.
-My brothers, for being so awesome. What can I say - I practically raised them! ;-) I don't keep in contact with them as much as I would like to, but I know that they would drop anything to help me out if I needed them. I love you guys!
-My sister-in-law Laci, for being Anna's "favorite aunt"! She has given up her day off to babysit my munchkin on Mondays so that I can get some sleep after a night shift. You have helped me out so much! I have always wanted a sister, and I have really enjoyed our extra time together this past year.
-My job...how lovely in this difficult economic time to have a reliable career that I love! I feel like I am fulfilling my calling in life! (Thanks, mom!)
-My sweet little patients at work, for reminding me that no matter how hard the trials in my life may seem, they are so very small in comparison to the trials that my patients with cancer or other chronic medical conditions face. I have met some incredibly tough patients and families through the years, and I always wonder how they do it.
-My close group of friends, for supporting me and lifting me up whenever I need a boost. Whether I need parenting advice, a sympathetic ear to vent to after a rough night at work, or just a friend to giggle with, I know I can count on these girls. I love that we plan fun girls nights and outings with our kids, and I hope that never changes. I love you girls!!
-And on a lighter note, I am thankful that Anna now comes to me and leads me to the bathroom when she needs to go poop. She has gone in the toilet 3 times today...I haven't changed a messy diaper in quite a while! Hopefully this will make potty training easier!
I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving!! I would love to hear your list of things you are thankful for...
