Disclaimer: This was over a month ago. I am catching up! Most of these pics are stolen from Michelle's blog. For some reason I didn't take very many pictures! I did get a few good ones of the falls, though...
I adore the musical Wicked! I saw it for the first time on Broadway when I was pregnant with Anna, then again last year when it came to Salt Lake City, but I am always ready to see it again. I tried to find someone who was crazy enough to drive to Boise with me to go see it...then I found out that my good friend Michelle had planned a trip for her and the girls in her family. I can always count on Michelle to be as crazy (obsessed!) as I am! ;-) So I decided to crash her party and ordered a ticket for myself for the show.
The eight of us (Michelle, her mom, her two sisters, her sister-in-law, a few friends and me) piled into two cars and headed out early on a Saturday morning, wanting to make the most of a very short overnight trip. At about the halfway point, we stopped just outside of Twin Falls to see Shoshone Falls. All I can say is WOW. I had no idea that such a place existed just a few hours from where I grew up.
What is this place? Supposedly the "Niagara Falls of the West". The unique thing about these falls is that they are the most rapid with the spring run off and they dry out by the fall. (This year may be the exception...they may never dry up!)

All we had to do is drive a few miles off of the freeway, drive down a switchback road into a canyon, and this was the view we were treated to!

Impressive, right?

We pulled into Boise around 2:00 pm and checked into the hotel. We headed downtown to a cute little bistro cafe for a snack. The food all looked delicious, but we wanted to save our appetite...we had reservations at The Melting Pot just a few hours away. Well, I have to say that I have a new favorite place.
The Melting Pot?? Course after course of DELICIOUSNESS! Thanks for the recommendation, Michelle!

After dinner we were able to (barely) make it to a movie. (The Melting Pot is fabulous, but don't expect a quick meal!) We went to see Something Borrowed. The flick received mixed reviews from our group, but I loved it. Very cute! Then it was back to the hotel for some girl bonding time. Michelle, Steph and I shared a hotel room. Michelle had every intent to participate in the girl talk, but the meds she took for her cough made her fall asleep mid-sentence. That's all right....Steph and I had a good chat. Love ya, Steph! We need to plan a lunch date!
The next morning, we headed downtown to eat an early lunch at Old Chicago Pizza. Again, yumminess!

Then it was off to the theater for a matinee showing of WICKED!

Since I ordered my Wicked ticket separate, I had to sit about 6 rows down from the other 7 during the show. Didn't matter a bit, though, because once the show starts, I am mesmerized. Loved it just as much the 3rd time as the first 2! We piled back into the cars and headed back towards Utah. We pulled into my driveway around 9:30 pm Sunday night.
This girls trip was VERY quick (just over 37 hours!), but so worth it. I had a blast, girls!
Thanks for letting me crash the party!
Now what do I have to look forward to?
Oh, yeah...
WICKED.
Salt Lake City.
August 2012.
Tickets? Purchased. ;-)
