An anniversary...of sorts

It's been a year. Hard to believe.

A year ago today was a very traumatic day in my life. After being diagnosed with severe preeclampsia, I was admitted to the hospital at 29 weeks with the knowledge that at any minute I would have to deliver a premature baby..."most likely within a few days" as my doctor had said. As a pediatric nurse (who has worked NICU often enough to know), this news was devastating to me. This was definitely not the fairy tale pregnancy and delivery that I had imagined. I tried to stay calm, but I was panicking on the inside, which wasn't doing my blood pressure any favors. For those of you who are not familiar with what transpired before I had Anna, click here if you would like to read more about it.

Luckily, I defied the odds and was one of the few that didn't end up with all of the complications that preeclampsia can bring. Luckily, on strict hospital bedrest, my blood pressure stayed high but stable for 4 more weeks. And luckily, I have a beautiful healthy daughter (who is 11 months old today!) to show for it now. I would go through that hell all over again for her...she is worth every agonizing second spent in that hospital room.

The experience made me a stronger woman. 34 total days spent in the hospital, a rough labor ending in a C-section, and 14 days in the NICU for Anna, but it could have been a lot worse.

Thanks to all of my wonderful family and friends who supported me through that rough time in my life. I couldn't have made it through without you.

Jami...thanks for the sweet comments and advice. Looking at your course of events with Anna, I have nothing to complain about! Hope everything is going great for you and Anna. She is so stinkin cute. She is the cutest dressed baby!
