My mom and dad decided to pull the trailer down to St. George again for this winter. A few weeks ago, they picked Anna and I up (of course Trav was working) and we headed down there to enjoy the last of the beautiful warm summery weather. What a fun little trip!
We headed out early in the morning. We made a quick pit stop in
Scipio for fuel and a little lunch. We thought Anna would enjoy the
petting zoo that they have right off of the freeway. She did...until the
pony bit her wrist. She was feeding him a piece of hay when he got a
hold of her PJ's. His jaw got a pretty good grip on her little wrist. My
mom and I jumped in, trying to get his mouth open. He finally let go,
and Anna escaped mostly unscathed (just a red wrist for a while), but
she was a little traumatized. I think it is good for her...she is always
a little too comfortable around horses. She really enjoyed the baby zebra and the other animals, though.
The "mean horsie"
Here it is...the Scipio petting zoo in all it's glory.
We
made it to St. George mid-afternoon. While my dad set up the trailer, my
mom and I took Anna for a quick swim in the RV park swimming pool. Perfect weather...85 degrees and not a cloud in the sky!
That night we headed out to Tuacahn to see The Little Mermaid. I can't explain how much I adore Tuacahn! I have always loved musicals, but there is something magical about seeing them at Tuacahn. They always do a great job, and the ambience is amazing with the open amphitheater, the red rock backdrop, and the incredible water features.
Walking into Tuacahn with Grandma Laurie...
I love the red rock backdrop.
Not exactly cooperating with the "smile" suggestion...but you get the idea.
All ready for the show to start. Sorry...my mom is a little squinty.
The Little Mermaid was amazing! I had no idea how they would do all of the underwater scenes, but they pulled it off, and it was unbelievable! Anna really enjoyed the show as well, although Ursula, the sea witch, freaked her out a bit. During the first act, she kept reassuring herself that Ursula the sea witch was nice. During the second act, she had come to terms with the fact that Ursula was evil. "She is not very nice, Mommy...but she sure has a cute dress!" Too funny.
The next day we headed to main street to grab a bite to eat at one of my favorite places. On the way there, we found this little horse statue, which was the perfect size for Anna to "ride".

Still a huge fan of horses...luckily not traumatized too much by the biting incident from the petting zoo pony.
Twenty Five Main: A super yummy little place with sandwiches, pasta, and scrumptious cupcakes. Love it! Our conversation as she ate her cookies and cream cupcake:
Anna: "Delicious...and nutritious!"
Me: "Um, delicious, yes, but I don't think they are very nutritious. Nutritious means they are good for your body."
Anna (after taking another bite and thinking for a moment): "Well, my body says Yummm!"
Anna and Buppa traded up...he's wearing Anna's headband and she's wearing his hat. I adore this picture!
We met up with my mom's friend Vicky for dinner at Brick Oven. (That's really all we did in St. George...lounge and eat yummy food!) While they were chatting, Anna entertained herself nicely with a paper doily. Silly girl.
We enjoyed the beautiful warm weather by taking a swim in the pool.
Anna was a little terrified to leave the pool steps at first. The pool was 3 1/2 feet deep right off of the steps. She's used to the wading pool at Kearns which gradually gets deeper. The water was over her head everywhere in this pool.
Getting more and more brave!
While in St. George, we were able to meet up with my cousin Brittany and her cute daughter for a moment (Brooklyn is going to school at Dixie), and on the day we were leaving, I was able to meet up with my friend Jana and her daughter Kinley for a while. Jana and I were best friends in high school and I still consider her one of my kindreds, but she lives in Cedar City and I never get to see her. Little Kinley has grown up so much...she is almost as tall as me! Not that that is a huge accomplishment, but I hadn't seen her in a long time. I just wish we could have had more time to go play!
All is all, the St. George adventure was a success. Thanks to my mom and dad for letting us tag along on a fun "end of summer" getaway. I needed that!
